Although our prototype attracted their eyes successfully. we still fall into a problem “ where does it live in the world?”. A large number of critical objects were placed in art galleries and printed in magazines. Once it is confined in a narrow space, which is separated from the actual life practice of the public, critique will lose its meaning. Therefore, we decide try to integrate critical objects into public daily life. After brainstorming, we choosed these two ideas to develop.

Contextuallization.

We develop the “black market”” idea into speculative sales stand. This speculative stand will show “ futural products” which was co-designed from our previous workshop. I further iterated some material usage of critical objects and packed the exhibits with attaching QR codes, and wrote advertising words according to the concept of each item.

In oder to make scenior more creditable. I and Tiana designed a consistent visual language from logo to packaging label, banner, and even the badge identifying our sales staff.

Final Outcome

With this project, we aim to provoke a discussion on the effects of data bias. We co-designed objects through a series of workshops by bringing together data scientists, designers and the general public to share their critical attitudes towards data bias. These artefacts were then displayed through our sales stand to the public to allow them to both experience data bias, but most importantly, rethink their relationship with technology.

Feedback and Reflection:

Many participants’ feedbacks reflect this project achieve our goal -communicate the bias in data to people from a non-technical background and evoke social reflections. One of the participants who once join in the medical industry said that this kind of experience and phenomenon really exists. This reminded him of his memories in that industry. However, there lacks some diversity in the discussion. I hope that views and attitude expressed from our works have room for discussion, rather than just negative criticism.

One of participants said whether using too much paper is not environmentally friendly? It is ture that we didn’t think about it, In the future, we hope to make more experiments in the selection of materials to be experienced, so as to gain more rich experiences, rather than the simple reading feeling, just some paper with words. More over, environmental protection and subsequent treatment after using should be taken into account in design.
